It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

This week the kids all helped us put up the Christmas tree in our classroom.  They had so much fun putting the tree together and putting all the decorations on it.
All of our snow has melted outside, but we still played in the "snow" during centers.  Shaving cream is almost as fun as the real thing, and it doesn't make your hands cold!

We have also been practicing our songs to sing in church this weekend.  They are doing so well learning all the verses and are so excited to share them with you this Sunday.
We learned all about the letter N this week and also learned all about the nativity.  We also introduced the number 15 and practiced counting all the way to 15 together.

Winter Wonderland

Last week the kids were all enjoying playing outside in the leaves.

This week we got a fun little taste of Winter!  We even got to slide on the sled slide at recess.  Please remember to send snow gear in for your children when there is snow on the ground.  We try to go outside everyday and the kids love to play in the snow.  If you can send everything together in a large reusable bag with your child's name written on the outside, it makes it much easier to get everyone dressed to go outside.

Unfortunately/fortunately (depending on how you look at it), our snow has melted now so we will have to wait for the next Winter storm to hit to play in the snow again.

We have had a few more science lessons with Mr. Ryan and Miss Linda.  The kids really enjoy these lessons with our parent/grandparent volunteers.  We did an experiment to see what would dissolve in water with Mr. Ryan.  This was hands on and a lot of fun for the kids to stir the item they chose and watch to see whether or not it dissolved in the water.

The bright green Kool-aid was a big surprise!  It didn't look green when it was in the cup.
We also learned about sponges with Miss Linda and got to do an experiment to see which sponge worked better, the natural sponge that God created, or the one the man created.  Of course we know which one was the best.
We watched the effects of wind on water and that was fun to see too.

We are moving right along in our curriculum and this week we have been learning about the letter M and the number 13.  During centers and circle time, we have been talking about our blessings and the things that we are thankful for.  The kids have worked hard on lots of fun Thanksgiving projects in addition to learning their numbers and letters.  We hope that everyone has a very happy Thanksgiving!  We are very thankful your children and the opportunity to spend time with all of them each week!

Noah's Ark Party

They may not have come two by two, but we still had lots of animals come to our annual Noah's Ark Party last Friday.  It is always fun to see all the different animal costumes our kids and families create for the party.

There were lots of activities to keep the animals entertained.  Everyone enjoyed hammering nails into a pumpkin to practice building an ark.

We walked over to the fire station for some treats and also got to learn all about being a firefighter.
Our local firefighters are always so good with the kids.  We are so lucky to have them right next door!

Learning all about firefighters at our Noah's Ark Party led us right into our week of learning about community helpers.  It is always fun to learn all about the people who are a part of our community and help it to function each day, but it is even more fun when we get to pretend to be a community helper.  During centers, the kids got to pretend to be a different helper each day.  We started off by being doctors and nurses and helping people feel better and stay healthy.

We also got to practice being a hair dresser or a barber.
Miss Amanda even let us practice on her hair.

We also pretended to be a chef or baker and made lots of yummy foods to eat.
This week we learned all about the letter K and the number 11.

It looks like another local family decided to check out Mt. Calvary Preschool for their kids too!

Spectacular Science

It has been a few weeks since I've updated the blog, but that doesn't mean we haven't been busy learning and playing here at Mt. Calvary.  The kids have really been enjoying the marble run lately during free play time.  It is fun to see them work together to create new designs or to see them figure out a new design all on their own.
Water play is always fun during center time.
Play dough is always a hit too.  The kids enjoyed making many different number combinations with the cookie cutters.
Mr. Ryan taught us a fun science lesson about explosions.  He showed us a car propelled by diet soda and Mentos.  Then we tried the same experiment with vinegar and compared how far the car went each time.  The vinegar car definitely went faster!

We finished up with a soda geyser and that was lots of fun too.

We have been talking this week about people around the world and how God loves all people.  We have also learned a little about geography this week.  We looked at the globe and learned the 7 continents with a fun song.  We also talked about the Holy Spirit and our Bible story was Pentecost.  The kids made their own flames to wear over their head just like the disciples.  We focused on the letter I and the number 9.  We hope you all enjoyed meeting with Miss Hannah this week to talk about your child's progress so far this year.  We certainly enjoy the time we get to spend with your children each week.

Fall Fun and Felines

Last Friday we had our annual Fall Bonfire.  It was so much fun to get together with all of our families and get to know each other better, and of course everyone loved making their own s'mores and hot dogs over the fire.

This week we have been focusing on the letter F.  We have also been learning all about felines.  Everyone pretended to be a feline during centers.
Our Bible story this week was Daniel in the Lion's Den and we learned how God saved Daniel from the lions by sending an angel to keep their mouths closed.   It's a good thing all of our felines are friendly!
For science this week, Mr. Brian and Miss Heather taught us all about density. We are so fortunate to have so many great volunteers to teach science this year.  All of our science teachers have made learning about science so much fun for the kids.  They really look forward to the lessons each week.  We have also started learning Spanish on Tuesday mornings with Mr. Jim.  The kids have been learning how to count to 10 the past couple of weeks and they are really enjoying their lessons with him as well.  We really appreciate all of our parent volunteers.  Thank you so much for volunteering your time with us here at Mt. Calvary!
