5...4...3...2...1...Blast Off!

This past week we started learning all about the planets in our Solar System.  Everyone worked together to paint all of the planets and we hung them up in our classroom in order.  We also did some art projects with the planets that came home with the children.  During science, everyone worked hard to create their own planet just like the Earth, complete with rocks, water, and clouds.  They all learned the order of the planets and pretended to be the planets so we could orbit around the sun.  Ask your children which planet is closest to the sun, which planet is the hottest, which planet is the largest, and which planet has rings.  They should be able to answer all of these questions.  They should also be able to tell you the order of the planets starting with the planet closest to the sun.  They can even tell you what the tiny little micro planet is called.  This has been a fun unit and the kids have really enjoyed learning all about the Solar System.

Creating their own planet with Mr. Ryan during our science lesson this week.

During God's Word this week, we talked about Mary and Martha.  Yesterday, everyone pretended to be Martha and practiced cleaning and taking care of the house.  Today they pretended to be Mary and learned about Jesus by looking through books.

Sled Sliding Away

Everybody is getting more independent and faster at getting their snow clothes on.  That is one benefit of having all this snow on the ground!  They are going to be pros by the time they head off to kindergarten.

Once everyone is dressed and outside they sure do have a lot of fun!
We even got Miss Hannah to go down the sled slide last week!

We are still busy learning new things everyday too.  Play dough makes learning letters lots of fun!

When the weather outside is frightful

The weather outside has been a bit frightful lately.  We tried to come back to school last week after winter break, but the snow had other plans for us and of course we ended up with 3 snow days!  We hope everyone had a chance to get outside and enjoy all of this snow a little bit.  It definitely hasn't stopped the kids from having fun outside.  We have been putting our sled slide to lots of good use lately.

Before winter break we had a chance to get together and celebrate Christmas as a class.  Everyone seemed to have a good time with all the goodies, games, and activities.  We are halfway through our school year now and it is hard to believe how much our kiddos have grown and changed already.

Now that we are back into our regular weekly routine, we are working hard to learn our letters and numbers again.  This week we are working on the letter P and the number 19.
We talked about God creating light, and experimented with light and different objects to learn about what it means if something is transparent, translucent, or opaque.
We also had a science lesson about spiders and webs with Miss Linda.
Of course we always work hard at having lots of fun with our friends too!
