Community Helpers

How are you enjoying this rain?  Rainy days can sometimes be hectic, as rain often means no recess!  However, we've had an AMAZING day this Friday, as well as an overall AMAZING week!  This week, we learned all about community helpers.  We explored different means in which we can serve the community when we grow up.  The children got to practice these jobs at center time, and each got to choose which job they'd like to work when they grow up.

Doctors certainly serve our community...
as do construction workers,
farmers,
chefs,
and hairdressers, too!
(isn't that cosmetology doll hair Kamryn's cutting kind of awesome?!  We found it at Savers LOL!)

Even our science lesson this week was about community helpers!  Miss Brigid taught us all about forensic scientists.  We learned about collecting evidence, as well as taking and examining fingerprints.  How cool is it that every person in the world has a fingerprint that is completely unique?  We are so wonderfully made!
Miss Brigid showed us her fingerprint on a blown up balloon!  SO cool!!
Examining our own fingerprints with magnifiying glasses!
Thank you so much, Miss Brigid, for such an awesome science lesson!

In other news, we will be starting a fun, classwide project starting today.  We have a new and special classroom friend.  His name is Speedy Bear:

Speedy Bear will be visiting each and every child's home on a rotational basis.  When your child has their turn with Speedy Bear, there are special responsibilities of which they must take care of.  These include feeding Speedy Bear his bottle, putting on his bib, dressing him in his pajamas, reading him a story, and keeping track of all other fun memories spent at each visit.  More information will be given to you when it is your child's turn to take Speedy Bear home.  The children were SO excited to meet Speedy and learn all about this special project.  Miss Hannah showed us how to feed Speedy his bottle, as well as how to dress him in his pajamas.

I think that is about all for now.  I hope you enjoyed all of this week's photos.  Any special plans for Super Bowl Sunday?  We had two little boys each represent the teams playing this weekend.  I just HAD to take their picture together.
Who will you be rooting for?
Have a safe and blessed Super Bowl Weekend!  Stay dry!

Peace and joy,
Miss Brooklyn

Good Manners are Great

Happy Friday, friends!
I hope you all had a restful three day weekend and a great week.  At preschool this week, we learned about the importance of good manners, as well as what good manners look like.  During center time today, the children had an opportunity to practice these good manners as they practiced "making" and "eating" dinner with play-doh.

This week we also did some practice with the number 16.

Thanks for reading!

Peace and joy,
Miss Brooklyn

Fish & Playground Fun

Happy Friday, friends!  This week we learned the Bible story of Peter's Catch of Fish.  To align with this story, we also spent time learning about fish during circle time and at centers.  Miss Brigid even brought in an aquarium for us to discover during our science lesson!  Awesome!

Although I wish I had more classroom pictures from this week, I do have some adorable play time pictures.  When I arrived at school today, I was greeted by a group of beautiful princesses!  We love to dress up here at Mount Calvary-it's one of our favorites!

I also wanted to share with you some pictures from recess.  The children played absolutely beautifully today-it was so fun!  When we first went out to the playground, I noticed two children helping push their friends on the swings.  It was the sweetest-they simply moved from swing to swing, helping push and never complaining or asking for anything in return.  It was completely out of kindness and truly made me beam.  We then played a huge game of hide-and-seek.  I truly enjoyed it and, again, was so pleased with how kind everyone was with each other as we played.

Awesome hiding spot!

I think that is about all for this week.  Enjoy your three day weekend!

Peace and joy,
Miss Brooklyn

Welcome, 2015!

Hi friends!  Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a blessed, relaxing break.  We are so excited to begin a new year with your children here at school!  I pray that this new year brings faith, love, happiness, growth, health, and LOTS of learning upon our community here at Mount Calvary!

Here are some photos from our centers this week.  We learned about Jesus choosing his disciples, the letter M, the number 15, and the season of winter.
Painting snow at the discovery center
This week we also worked as a class to create a "snow" man!
We voted on our name for our snow-woman.  The children decided to name her "Cat."
Miss Kamryn working on stuffing the snowman!
Kellan working hard to create the letter "M" out of macaroni!

Check out our beautiful work on tracing the number 15!  "A straight line down is fun, that's the way to make a one.  Short neck, belly fat, number 5, wears a hat."
Beautiful girls painting beautiful snowflakes!

Nice work, Brianna!
I wanted to make two announcements this week.  First of all, our new "blog day" will be Fridays.  With the new semester, my school schedule changed, so Wednesdays will no longer be my day to update.  I appreciate your flexibility!  Secondly, Miss Hannah and I decided today that we want to implement a new idea called, "Caught Being Good."  There are countless times where we witness your children do amazing things, be it academically, spiritually, or socially.  We want you to be aware of  this!  Therefore, we are going to make an effort to send home a happy little note when we witness these beautiful, stand-out moments.  Of course, we won't be able to share with you each and every time, but we want to make an effort to share those moments that truly stand out to us.

Thank you for reading!  I am so thankful for this community.

Peace and joy,
Miss Brooklyn
